Fig Jam & Goat Cheese Sliders with Bourbon Caramelized Onions

These sliders will elevate your gourmet game day! They use my Fig Jam Pepper Jelly recipe, as well as arugula, goat cheese, and bourbon caramelized onions for an epic game day treat.

My husband is a plain jane sometimes when it comes to food. When I told him I wanted to make sliders for game day, he asked if his could just have cheddar cheese and ketchup. That’s it. He isn’t always into recipes that use ingredients he’s not totally familiar with. I’m sure there are many guys out there that give us ladies grief about wanting to do a little but more of a elevated recipe other than just a plain cheeseburger.

But when I told him these would have bourbon caramelized onions, he of course then became interested. He ended up loving these sliders and didn’t even want any of he plain cheeseburger ones I had originally made specifically for him (I also feel like this is very relatable).

Here is what you’ll need to make these Fig Jam & Goat Cheese Sliders:

Fig Jam & Goat Cheese Sliders with Bourbon Caramelized Onions

makes 4 sliders

ingredients:

  • 1/2 lb ground beef

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp worcestershire

  • 4 slider buns

  • 4 tbsp Fig Jam Pepper Jelly (recipe here)

  • 1 cup arugula

  • 1/2 cup goat cheese

  • 1 small yellow or sweet onion

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 1 tbsp bourbon

  • 1 tsp maple syrup

directions:

  1. First make your bourbon caramelized onions. Heat the butter on medium low heat. Once melted, add in your onions, sliced thin. Cook for 8-10 minutes, until the onions have softened. Add in the bourbon and maple syrup, and cook down for another 5 minutes. Set them aside when finished cooking.

  2. Mix the ground beef with the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and worcestershire. Form 4 patties, and grill them on a grill or grill pan at medium high heat for 2-3 minutes on side, and then 1-2 minutes on the other side.

  3. Spread the goat cheese on top of each slider and let them rest. This will help melt the goat cheese too.

  4. Assemble the sliders. Spread the fig jam pepper jelly on the tops and bottom of each slider buns. Add the arugula to the bottom bun and then the sliders with goat cheese on top. Add the bourbon caramelized onions, and then the other slider bun to finish it off!
