Nonnie’s Homemade Marinara

nonnie / sauces / meal prep

Marinara. Tomato Sauce. Gravy. Sunday Sauce. Ragu. Whatever you want to call it, here is the recipe you need to save, bookmark, pin, download. This stuff is liquid gold, and surprisingly easy to make.

The easiest way to make this sauce is by using cans of crushed tomatoes. This is the recipe I have written below.

The second easiest way is to use cans of whole, peeled tomatoes. If you use these, squeeze each whole tomato over your sink to get rid of the juice inside and the seeds. Pulse it in your food processor along with a little juice from the can before using this when making the sauce.

The most time consuming way (and the freshest tasting way) is to boil whole Roma tomatoes in some water until the skin starts to break (should be around 5 minutes). Let the tomatoes cool and the peel should remove very easily. Then do the same steps above as if you are using the cans of peeled, whole tomatoes.
