This is the best classic chili recipe. This traditional chili recipe is just like mom used to make with ground beef, beans, and a simple homemade blend of chili seasonings

This classic chili is perfect for a weeknight meal because it can be made in minutes. The only thing to chop is an onion and a jalapeno pepper. The rest of the work goes to your can opener! This Ultimate Classic Chili has all the traditional flavors you would want to see - ground beef, beans, green chile peppers, corn, and tomatoes.

The Ultimate Classic Chili

This is the best classic chili recipe! This traditional chili recipe is just like mom used to make with ground beef, beans, and a simple homemade blend of chili seasonings.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 20 oz lean ground beef
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 jalapeno, diced
  • 1 can dark kidney beans, drained
  • 2 cans pinto beans, drained
  • 1 can black beans, drained
  • 1 can corn
  • 1 large can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 4.5 oz can green chiles
  • 2 tbsp cumin
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 2- 3 cups broth
  • hot sauce to taste

Instructions

  1. In your dutch oven or large pot you will make the chili in, heat the olive oil and cook the beef until it is browned. Remove the beef and set aside for later.
  2. Add the rest of the olive oil in the pot and cook the onions and jalapenos until translucent.
  3. Add in your cans of beans, corn, and chiles. Stir and add in your spices and salt. Stir again.
  4. Add back in your meat and can of crushed tomatoes. Stir to combine. Then pour in your broth over top. Give it another stir, cover and let simmer for 20-30 minutes.
  5. Add in your desired amount of hot sauce, stir and serve. My favorite toppings are avocado, Greek yogurt or sour cream, green onion, cilantro, and jalapenos. Maybe even some cornbread on the side!
